Description
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This is a great course for those with previous sewing experience who wish to enhance their current skill level
It is ideal for those who have already completed the City & Guild Sewing Machine Skills Level 1 and Sampling Level 2, although this is not essential.
If you have already undertaken a level 1 & 2 award you will continue to build on these skills. Garments at level 2 will utilise more complex techniques and design components and in-depth background contextual fashion research.
The daytime course has 9 sessions of 4.5 hours over 10 weeks, the evening course has 13 sessions of 3 hours over 14 weeks
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
You will learn a range of machine and hand sewing techniques to achieve a professional finish to your final garment
You will learn how to take your measurements and alter a commercial pattern to fit your personal size
How to lay out your fabric and cut out your pattern
How to construct your dress
Students work towards the completion of a portfolio of practical skills to design, plan and make a final dress
Students will also be required to complete some research and written work at home in their own time
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
City & Guilds qualifications are recognised for their high level practical skills and are for professional and hobby sewers alike.
There will not be an exam to sit but you will be continually assessed by your tutor throughout the course where you will receive verbal and written feedback
You will be required to submit your coursework on completion of the course for assessment by the tutor, Internal Quality Assessor and External Quality Assessor after which you will be awarded either a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
The course costs £585 which may be paid in 3 instalments of £195
The daytime course has 9 sessions of 4.5 hours over 10 weeks, the evening course is 13 sessions of 3 hours over 14 weeks, there are no sessions during half term week
If you can`t make one of the sessions I can be flexible and there would be an opportunity to make up the hours on a different day, just let me know.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Students will be required to purchase their pattern, fabric and notions for their own garment but everything else will be provided.

I really, REALLY enjoyed this course! I’ve gone from a beginner to sewing my own dress!! Maria is a brilliant teacher, I’ve learnt so much! I also really enjoyed the fashion history element to this course. Would highly recommend!

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I have gone from a nervous sewer to confidently making dresses for myself and my friends. The study elements to this course are a little different from the Level 1 Sewing Skills and the Level 2 Sampling Techniques courses, as a lot of the work revolves around the dress being made. Some research is required as to history and dress cultures, but I found this really enjoyable to do. I learnt an awful lot on this course and highly recommend Maria as a teacher.
