I was Complete beginner. Never owned a sewing machine or used one since school. Maria is absolutely incredible, I can’t believe the samples I was doing within a few classes. This course has taught me so much and I enjoyed every week. And went onto do the next level as it reignited my passion for creating.

After attending a mother and daughter sewing day with Maria and making a cushion and makeup bag with my daughter I decided to try this course while my kids were at school! Maria was really flexible when kids were off sick or school holidays. I absolutely loved this course so much and couldn’t wait to move on to the next! Following on from this course I bought some fabric and started to make a top ? which has gone on to much much more!

Thank you Sarah, I am so impressed with all the garments you are making now, your children must be thrilled!

I needed to boost my sewing skills and this was just what I needed. I hadn’t put a zip in or done button in over 30 years. I found my ‘Happy Place’ while doing the machine embroidery and appliqué. Maria is a great teacher and the facilities are perfect. I was very proud of my NVQ result. I have attended 3 of Maria’s courses and can highly recommend them.

I had barely touched a sewing machine since leaving school 30 years ago! Somehow I was always frightened by using a sewing machine. I enjoyed this course so much. Maria is a kind, helpful and infinitely patient teacher who has done wonders for my both my confidence and my skill set. I especially loved the appliqué work and machine embroidery for the fun factor, but I am now competent at various small sewing tasks that before I would have avoided e.g. taking up a hem. Thank you Maria!

I have been sewing for many years (taught by mum!) but wanted to smooth out my techniques and learn a few more and have something to show for it. I did want to start with Level 2 but was persuaded to start with Level 1. I am glad I did! There was still a lot I hadn’t done before. Maria was fantastic she is very knowledgeable and patient and explains everything clearly. I really enjoyed the lessons and cannot thank Maria enough would highly recommend.

This was a brilliant course for me. I had not attempted anything for over thirty years and Maria gave me the confidence to get my machine out and start sewing again. Her teaching method put me at ease and each new technique was put into context with the items that we made.

City and Guilds Level 1 was a whole new ball game for me. The first thing I ever made at our Monday class was a counterpane for my bed. It was a bit like running before I could walk.
This course taught me the ins and outs of my machine. It covered various different techniques with the sewing machine. We used different fabrics with different textures to get different effects on our material. We did quilting, cross tucks , wave tucks, piping, she edging, applique and free sewing (which I found incredibly hard).
Maria is an amazing teacher. She has such a wonderful way of teaching. This course was a real eye opener for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Who knows in the future I might try Level 2.

After completing a beginners day course and falling in love with sewing I booked the City & Guilds level 1 course. I purchased the same sewing machine as those used in course and during the course was taught how much could be done and achieved when taught properly. All the basic techniques were covered on the course as well as slightly more technical and fun things like free Embroidery which is absolutely amazing! So now I know the way around my machine the world of sewing is my oyster! Not only did I gain a whole set of skills I achieved an amazing qualification with a distinction – I was blown away with the result. Maria is a patient kind funny lady and her studio is a haven of awesomeness

Before joining Maria’s City & Guilds Level 1 Sewing Skills course I lacked confidence in my sewing ability and never showed anyone anything I had made. Maria was very kind and patient and I learnt so much. I would recommend this course to all beginners, as well as those who already sew and just want to re-fresh their memory of how something is done. As I really enjoyed the course I went on to do the City & Guilds Level 2 Sampling Techniques Classes.

I hadn’t sewed for a good number of years and had learnt on a Singer treadle so I really needed a refresher as I wanted to encourage my grandchildren to sew. I’m so pleased I joined the group not only is Maria a wonderful teacher but it was a lovely group to learn in. When the course finished I had a real sense of accomplishment so I signed up for level 2 . Thank you Maria for your kindness and patience.
